HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU IN CHOOSING A STYLE FOR YOUR GREAT ROOM!

Contemporary Styles
Contemporary styling borrows classical elements from the past for interior decoration and detail while maintaining a Modern minimalist approach to furniture design. Designers created classic pieces using laminated woods, fiberglass and molded plastics while reflecting a respect for modern materials and wartime technology.

Casual Styles
Casual is a category that describes informal furniture that
encompasses Rustic, Shaker, English and French Country styles to name a few. Rustic furniture is usually thought to be "raw" or unfinished, solid in shape, heavy and sturdy with simple wrought iron hardware. The Shaker style is delicate, simple and utilitarian and may also be considered "raw". It is characterized by straight tapered legs, woven square chair seats and mushroom shaped wooded knobs. The Scandinavian style is also a utilitarian understated design style. It may be considered in the Casual or Contemporary Category, generally featuring exposed wood in teak and walnut with forms which are lightweight, clean-lined and very functional. English and French Country styles reflect their more traditional counterparts while maintaining an informal and effortless old farmhouse-look with comfort as key. Although there is a strong sense of tradition for their respective histories, each style inspires weekend strolls through flea markets and junk shops to find unique and interesting furnishings

Modern Styles
Modern is a term that applies to styles that adhere to the tenet that form must follow function. Furniture designers employed new technology and materials to find innovative ways to make furniture. Sleek, streamlined shapes with minimal decoration define the Modern movement. Art Deco is a great example of this style. Stepped sleek forms, rounded corners, triple-striped decorative elements and the use of chrome and black trim characterize it.

COLOR INFLUENCES 2010

Color trends change with time, resulting from movements in fashion, nature and the economy.  Presently, we see more conservatism in interior design.  When decorating, the colors have shifted more toward neutral hues while accenting in bolder colors.  These colors, such as taupe, brown, green and blue, seem to reflect the basic colors and feel of nature.  These subtle colors then invite the addition of art, greenery and bold accessories.

Due to economic conditions, the majority of homeowners are staying in their current home and looking for ways to make their existing living space fresh and updated.  Society tends to decorate with colors that are familiar and that helps to bring out a sense of happiness.  The colors that compliment the neutral list above are red, orange and yellow and teal.  These colors not only represent optimism during challenging times, but they help to reflect an environmental ambiance.
